Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. High school grades are the single most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice. Therefore, maintaining high grades is particularly important for the fall semester of senior year, as well as the winter semester if you're applying by regular admission, and not seeking early decision.

Online courses foster faculty innovation in teaching, by requiring professors to develop new course materials. Distance education reduces the need for high-priced course textbooks, as many books are now available on Kindle, Google Books, or as shareware. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Fresno Pacific University acceptance dates 2017There are almost 7,000 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which enroll 15 million students, and award 2 million bachelors degrees every year. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. US College Admissions

As the admission's office has to analyze a large number of applications, your goal is to stand out in a good way. Keep your admissions' application brief, and stick to the point when answering questions. Search Google for 'resume-writing tips,' as if you were applying for a job interview, and write your college app in the same style. Just be yourself, and work on improving your grades during your final years in high school. Public universities are more likely to evaluate applicants based on grades and test scores alone, while private universities tend to be more holistic.

Many colleges pay great attention to a student's grades throughout their senior year, not limited to academic performance in core courses, but in AP-level or honors courses as well. In fact, an ideal academic record is one of increasingly better grades, in courses of progressive difficulty.
Factors in the college admissions' process:

1. GPA in AP classes, or honors courses
2. Strength of high school curriculum
3. SAT or ACT scores
4. Overall high school GPA
5. Admissions essay
6. Early decision commitment
7. Your class rank
8. Athletics contributions
9. Teacher recommendations
10. AP Test scores
11. Extracurricular activities
Applicants who achieve a leadership position in an extracurricular activity are regarded more highly than students who merely participate, so only join clubs that you have a real interest in. About half of colleges use a waiting list, particularly those which are more selective. One survey suggests that 30% of wait-listed students are eventually accepted, so applicants who are wait-listed should contact the admissions office of their top choice by phone, to declare that they will attend if accepted. While most college admissions involve high school students applying directly to college, transfer admissions are important as well. Many community colleges have agreements with four-year schools, particularly flagship state universities, so that the transfer of credits is handled smoothly.

SAT vs ACT Test Scores

Most colleges accept either the SAT or ACT, and have formulas for converting test scores into admissions' criteria. Colleges use these standardized tests because there are substantial differences in curricula, grading, and difficulty among US high schools. One benefit of the ACT test is that it allows the test-taker to select scores to send to specific colleges. ACT test questions are geared towards higher levels of high school mathematics, while the SAT test is a better choice for students with an excellent vocabulary. On average, over half of juniors retaking the SAT as a senior saw improvements in their scores. These tests are designed to measure your accumulated knowledge over years of study. Further, Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of physical sciences, offering you college credit for honors-level classes that you have taken while still in high school. Test yourself with practice exams online, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be able to receive course credits or advanced placement, when you start college.

Create a Part-time Income Online

The goal here is to show you how to design a simple website that gets listed on search engines, and is able to generate a cash-flow within a few months. Sure, you've seen lots of sites telling you that it's easy to make money online, but if it was that easy, everyone would be rich. The truth is that creating a part-time income for yourself is possible, but it's a fair amount of work up-front. If you keep working on it a few hours a week, you can increase your daily earnings as your website develops. The basics are as follows:
Website Design Course
(6 steps to learn)
  1. Get a hosting package. Costs $5/mo, including a domain name.
  2. Website design can be simplified, using templates and RSS feeds.
  3. Write one 900 word article daily, with original photos.
  4. Drive search engine traffic via on-page optimization.
  5. Get approved to Google AdSense, and other affiliate programs.
  6. Earn money, beginning with $1/day, and keep publishing.

Doing business online is one of your best options to raise extra income. Success is governed by two main factors, visitor traffic and sales conversions. There's no rent to pay when starting a business online, unless you count yearly domain name registration and monthly website hosting, both of which are minor. The easiest way to start is by opening a Wordpress blog, and monetizing with Google AdSense pay-per-click ads. If you've tried Adsense before, but only made a few cents per click, you have a lot of learning to do. Just making a website isn't enough, if no-one can find it. You'll then need online marketing skills, and the ability to drive conversions. All of this takes work.
